More than 9 months after the “World of Color” water and projection show at Disney California Adventure was closed due to an accident involving the underwater technology, the show is scheduled to return. “World of Color,” which originally debuted in 2010, will once again delight guests at Disney California Adventure with a soft opening on Friday, February 22nd.
World of Color dining packages are not currently showing as available for booking online; however, World of Color dessert parties are currently available for booking, though the first two days of the show seem to have already filled up. The “World of Color” soft opening will continue through February 28th. Though not yet confirmed by Disney, the show’s official opening will reportedly be March 1st to coincide with the opening day of the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival, though Disney officials have yet to confirm this.
Planning for “World of Color” began in 2005, five years before the show opened to guests. Original concepts included everything from rides to shows for Paradise Bay Lagoon. The show, which was developed as a “living Fantasia,” brought challenges as the team had to create new technologies to make their vision for the show come to life. The show features over 1,200 programmable fountains and an underwater grid with more than 18,000 points of control. Fountains from the show send water to heights ranging from 30 to 200 feet into the air. For comparison, Mickey’s Fun Wheel stands at 150 feet tall.
