Watch Disney Animators At Work

Animators at The Magic of Disney Animation

The Magic Of Disney Animation is a great attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here you can learn about the process of making a Disney animated film. You can even get a behind the scenes look at upcoming films! But did you know this attraction used to be home to the Orlando branch of Walt Disney Animation?

Until 2004, The Magic Of Disney Animation tour gave guests a chance to watch real Disney animators at work. As part of the tour, guests would walk past large windows looking into the animation studio. They could see animators drawing scenes from upcoming Disney films. It was fascinating to watch these talented artists at work.

Films produced at Walt Disney Animation Orlando include several great Disney films. The ink and paint for The Little Mermaid, which also happens to be the last Disney film painted by hand, was done in Orlando. The production studio was also responsible for a Roger Rabbit cartoon short called Roller Coaster Rabbit. The animators at Walt Disney Animation Orlando were not limited to shorts and helping on feature film, though. Lilo & Stitch, Mulan, and Brother Bear were each produced at Disney-MGM Studios, as it was then called.

In 2004, the Orlando branch of Walt Disney Animation was shut down. The windows which once allowed guests to view Disney magic being created have since been frosted over, with the exception of one small section of windows. Guests can still view an animator’s desk on the tour, but it’s just not the same as being able to see animators at work.
