Top 10 Ways To Celebrate An Anniversary At Disney

Happily Ever After - Frontierland Station

With so many unique restaurants, fireworks under the stars, and magic in the air, Walt Disney World is an amazing place to celebrate anniversaries. In addition to spending our honeymoon at Walt Disney World, my husband and I have also returned to the parks to celebrate our anniversary several times over the years. We’ve enjoyed delicious meals at restaurants such as Tutto Italia Ristorante and marveled at the beauty of the fireworks from in the parks and from the beaches of the Magic Kingdom resorts. I can’t think of a better place for anniversary celebrations than Walt Disney World. Below are some of my favorite ways to celebrate an anniversary at Disney.

10. Anniversary Buttons

Whether you’re celebrating at Walt Disney World or even on Disney Cruise Line, be sure to ask for anniversary buttons. These complimentary buttons are given out at Guests Services, your resort front desk, ticket windows, and at most check-out counters at stores throughout the parks. The design of the anniversary button has changed over the years. My husband and I received an adorable Mickey & Minnie anniversary button about seven years ago, when we visited Walt Disney World for our 2nd anniversary. The current button design featuring Cinderella & Prince Charming says “Happily Ever After.” This button is now used for engagements, newly weds, and anniversaries. The cast members will often write how long you’ve been married on the button so other guests and cast members will know you’re celebrating an anniversary.

Be sure to wear your button each day of your vacation. You will be met with congratulations from both cast members and fellow guests. If you’re lucky, you might even get something free because of your buttons. I don’t recall getting anything free because of our anniversary buttons, but my parents did get a beautiful Christmas ornament for their anniversary celebration at Liberty Tree Tavern. So be sure to wear your button and make a note of your celebration on any dining reservations. You just never know what extra Disney magic Mickey has up his sleeve!

9. In-Room Celebrations

Disney Floral and Gifts offers a variety of in-room celebrations including a couple of romance themed celebrations. The “From Mickey And Minnie With Love” option includes rose petals, candles, and chocolate in your room, as well as, a spa basket. It also includes a dozen pixie dusted roses and a custom matted photo of Mickey and Minnie. The “A Wish Come True” option is a two day celebration beginning with a “Disney dozen” roses. Day two of the celebration includes rose petals, candles, Cinderella Castle chocolates, a silver plated bracelet, and more. Either of these special in-room celebrations are sure to make your anniversary celebration one to remember for years to come.

8. Fireworks Dessert Parties

Whether you’re visiting Magic Kingdom, Epcot, or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the nighttime fireworks spectaculars at Walt Disney World are simply amazing! Each of these three parks offers fireworks dessert parties where you can enjoy spectacular views, as well as, delicious treats.

Magic Kingdom offers two dessert parties, the Fireworks Dessert Party at Tomorrowland Terrace and the Fireworks Dessert Party with Plaza Garden Viewing. Guests staying at Tomorrowland Terrace will enjoy an amazing view of the show from their table. The view as Tinkerbell flies over this location is magical; in fact, Tomorrowland Terrace was my favorite viewing location for Wishes. I haven’t seen Happily Ever After from this location, but I’m sure the view is just as amazing as before. Guests viewing Happily Ever After from the Plaza Garden viewing area will enjoy a spectacular view of the projections on Cinderella Castle. It should be noted, the Plaza Garden viewing area is standing room only.

The Frozen Ever After Dessert Party at World Showcase is a great way to end your day of celebrating at Epcot. In addition to tasty treats and stunning fireworks views, this dessert party also includes a ride on the popular Frozen Ever After attraction in the Norway pavilion.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests can enjoy Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party as they view the Star Wars themed fireworks show. The party begins at Star Wars Launch Bay where guests will enjoy Star Wars themed desserts including the popular Darth Vader cupcake. After enjoying delicious treats and specialty drinks, including alcoholic beverages, the party will move to a fantastic viewing spot for the fireworks show. Beginning October 1, 2018, this dessert party will also include viewing of Disney Movie Magic, a brilliant projection show featuring scenes from many favorite Disney films.

7. Tutto Italia Ristorante

When I think of Disney romance, I think of the spaghetti & meatballs scene from Lady & The Tramp. Dining at Tutto Italia Ristorante in the Italy pavilion of World Showcase is pretty close to experiencing that classic scene. While some may say dining at Tony’s would be a closer recreation of this scene, I prefer the food and atmosphere at Tutto Italia.

My husband and I had lunch at Tutto Italia on our anniversary trip last year. The spaghetti was some of the best I’ve ever had. I also tried a bit of my husband’s Lasagna alla Bolognese which was equally delicious. If you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, your meal will also include dessert. I highly recommend the Bacio al Cioccolato. This warm chocolate hazelnut cake with vanilla gelato is one of the best desserts I’ve ever tried.

In addition to the wonderful food, the atmosphere of this Italian restaurant makes it a great dining choice for an anniversary celebration. From the moment we walked in, it felt like we were dining at a fancy restaurant in Italy. Though Tutto Italia is only one table service credit on the dining plan, the experience is much nicer than many of the other wonderful one table service credit restaurants at Disney. If you’re looking for a nice meal without the high price of Disney’s signature dining experiences, Tutto Italia Ristorante is definitely the place for you.

6. Carriage Rides

Cinderella is not the only one who can go for a carriage ride at Disney. You can celebrate your anniversary with a romantic carriage ride at two of the Walt Disney World resort hotels. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground offers a carriage ride through the beautiful pine and cypress trees. If a riverside carriage ride is more your style, you can enjoy a relaxing carriage ride along the banks of the Sassagoula River at Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside.

5. Stay At A Deluxe Resort

An anniversary vacation to Walt Disney World is a special occasion. So why not make it extra magical by staying at one of Disney’s deluxe resorts? Each deluxe resort offers an exquisitely themed experience. Enjoy the Victorian elegance of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. You can even take in a spa day while you’re there. If you prefer a tropical setting, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is the place to go. Of course, if you really want to splurge, a stay in the bungalows at the Polynesian would be a fantastic way to celebrate your anniversary.

If you want to get a little closer to nature during your stay, Disney also has two deluxe resorts perfect to help you do just that. Themed after our national parks, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge provides a rustic setting complete with a geyser outside. I had the privilege of staying at this resort when I was 7 years old. I loved watching the geyser and was fascinated by the details of the lobby, including the very tall totem poles featuring Disney characters. Now that I’m older, I still find both of these things just as fascinating as when I was young.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge also provides a magnificent way to get in touch with nature. Its savanna view rooms offer views of animals who make their home on the resort’s savanna. Imagine waking up in the morning to see a giraffe right outside your room!

The deluxe resorts also offer unique pools such as the Nanea Volcano Pool at Disney’s Polynesian or Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club. These resorts are also home to some of the best dining experiences at Walt Disney World. Other great amenitites at the deluxe resorts include monorail or watercraft service to the parks!

4. California Grill

Celebrate your anniversary with fine dining at the California Grill. Located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, this dining experience offers Californian cuisine and a magnificent view of the Magic Kingdom across Seven Seas Lagoon. If your dinner reservation is during Happily Ever After, you’ll be able to watch the show from your table or you can head out to the observation deck for a stunning view of the show. If your meal is not during the fireworks show, you’ll still be able to view the show from California Grill’s observation deck or lounge. Just bring your receipt from your meal earlier in the day to the check-in desk, or let them know you have a later reservation and you will be invited to watch the fireworks from the lounge or the observation deck.

3. Fireworks Cruises

Disney also offers specialty fireworks cruises for both Happily Ever After and IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. These cruises are offered on several different types of boats from pontoons to yachts. Depending on which cruise you select, they can accommodate from 8 to 18 guests. Fireworks cruises include assorted snacks and soft drinks. Festival banners and balloons are also included and can be requested upon booking. The synchronized soundtrack for the fireworks show will also be played on board.

If you’re looking for a fireworks cruise that’s a bit more affordable, Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise may be a great option for you. You’ll board one of Disney’s ferryboats for an evening of tasty treats, specialty beverages – with or without alcohol, and stunning fireworks from Happily Ever After. You’ll also get some “Mickey Vision” glasses to transform your viewing experience in a magical way.

2. Victoria and Albert’s

A spectacular fine dining experience for your anniversary celebration can be found at the Grand Floridian’s award winning Victoria & Albert’s. In February 2018, Victoria and Albert’s received its 18th consecutive AAA Five Diamond Award, as well as, its very first 2018 Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Award. There are only 68 Five Diamond restaurants in North America and only 64 Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star restaurants throughout the world. Victoria and Albert’s is the only restaurant in Florida to receive both awards.

At Victoria and Albert’s, a harpist, fresh flowers, and candlelight set the mood for your romantic anniversary celebration. The cuisine found at Victoria & Albert’s features contemporary American dishes. If you really want to splurge for your anniversary celebration, reserve a private 10 course dinner in Queen Victoria’s Room which accommodates up to 8 guests. For a remarkable dining experience, enjoy an up to 13 course dinner at the Chef’s Table.

1. Vow Renewals

Perhaps you’ve always dreamed of a Disney fairytale wedding. What better way to celebrate your anniversary than with a vow renewal ceremony at Walt Disney World! You can choose from several beautiful ceremony and reception locations such as Disney’s Wedding Pavilion, numerous locations around World Showcase, The Living Seas Salon, Harambe Street, and more. No matter which location you select, a vow renewal ceremony is sure to be a unique and memorable way to celebrate your anniversary while renewing your vows to each other.

Great post Kimberly! Love the top 10 list of ways to celebrate an anniversary! I hope to do the fireworks cruise in the future.

Me too! The fireworks cruise sounds like so much fun!

My husband and I vacationed at Disneyland and we often plan trips around our anniversary. We love getting the buttons and writing which anniversary it is on it.
These are all great ways to celebrate in WDW and I hope to do some of those if we are ever there on our anniversary.
Which is your favorite?

I love watching the fireworks from the Tomorrowland Terrace, although I haven’t watched it there since they started the dessert party. Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate an anniversary though!

Lin @ DisneyMamas

We honeymooned at WDW, and for the past several years have been able to celebrate our anniversary there every other year since it typically falls the week of Thanksgiving. This year we are doing a Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Vow Renewal for our 10th anniversary and I am so excited! You have provided some great tips, and given me a lot of ideas!

How special! Have you chosen a location for the vow renewal yet? I always thought it would have been neat to get married right in front of the castle (but I don’t think they offer that…).

Lin @ DisneyMamas

Yep! We are using Sea Breeze Point at the Boardwalk! You actually can get married in front of the castle…if you can afford it and want to get married either super, super early in the morning or super, super late at night!

The Boardwalk will be a great location! That is so cool that you can get married in front of the castle! I bet it’s super expensive!

Lin @ DisneyMamas

No kidding! I think I read a blog at one point where the starting price for the castle was $25,000!

Wow! Don’t think I could justify that…you could probably go to Disney at least 15 – 20 times for that!

Lisa Cameron

We celebrated our anniversary at WDW last year. Although we weren’t able to do romantic things since the kids were with us, we made sure to get pics alone and have a special dinner. Which restaurant would you recommend for a special occasion with kids in tow?

That’s a good question! I don’t have kids, so I can’t say for sure but maybe Le Cellier. I went there when I was a kid, although I don’t remember much of it. Be Our Guest or Via Napoli would probably be romantic and good for kids too (although I haven’t tried either of them yet).

Dawn Cullo

What a super list – thank you for sharing – Have you ever done the carriage ride? How long is the ride?

I have not, but don’t they sound fun! They are 25 minutes long and cost $45, so they’re a bit expensive. But I think they would be perfect for an anniversary!

I love all of your ideas! We are going to celebrate our anniversary next year at WDW. It will be our 10th so I want it to be special. The fireworks cruise sounds like something I need to look into. 🙂

That sounds like a fabulous way to celebrate! Let me know if you do go on a fireworks cruise. I’d love to hear about it!

Bryce Yelverton

I have ALWAYS wanted to try Victoria and Albert’s. Maybe one day. Remy on the Disney Dream is probably pretty close though and I have enjoyed that in person! What is the best anniversary dinner in Animal Kingdom?

I honestly have no idea. I haven’t found a table service restaurant I really like at DAK. Rainforest Cafe is fun, but I’m not the biggest fan of the food. I’ve heard Yak and Yeti is good. I need to try it. I’ve also heard Tusker House is good. I need to try it too. I love Restaurantosaurus, but I definitely would call it romantic.

Tusker House would be a great anniversary dinner at AK! It’s definitely different than a traditional night out–great decor and setting. Sanaa over at AK Lodge would be more romantic, though. Much better ambiance and away from the hustle & bustle of the Parks.

All wonderful suggestions! I’ve always wanted to do a carriage ride. Have you done that yourself?

I haven’t, but it sounds fun!

We have done many anniversairies there (prior to kids) and have loved every single one of them. The buttons make all the difference in the world.

They do! I love all of the celebration buttons!

Heidi Strawser

We’ve been at Disney over (or around) our anniversary several times – but always with the kids! We love getting the buttons and having everyone say “Happy Anniversary.” That’s such a special feeling! We even had a “magical moment” the other year when a Cast Member at the American Adventure called us up to the podium, saying we had a phone call. I freaked (I was so worried!) and it ended up being Goofy wishing us a Happy Anniversary!

That’s so cool!

Beth Green

We celebrated an anniversary at WDW too and did many of the things you suggested! My favorite was eating at California grill and watching Wishes! 🙂

I haven’t actually done that yet, but it sounds like so much fun! I have a friend who goes there almost every trip. It’s her and her husband’s favorite place to eat at Disney.

Those are great ways to celebrate – we haven’t done an anniversary yet – the msot exciting we do is get a date night while we’re there – but a nice dinner is good enough for me! Those are great “one day” ideas, though!

Date night at Disney would be fun!

We visit Disney every year… next year will b our 50th wedding anniversary. Would love to do something special including family & friends. Open for suggestions..

Kimberly Baker

Congratulations! Have you thought about a fireworks cruise? They can accommodate quite a few people and watching the fireworks from the water sounds like so much fun! A dessert party or dinner at one of Disney’s signature restaurants would be a couple more ideas.

Bernie Wallace

My wife and I usually celebrate our anniversary at the Yachtsman Steak House at the Yacht and Beach Club. Thanks for sharing.

Annette Allen

My husband and I are celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary by taking a cruise. We have never been on a cruise before. We arrive back in Orlando on the actual day-May 22nd. My husband semi retired 1 year ago so our options have changed from when he was working full time. We wanted to stay in a Disney Resort, but even the All Star Resorts were out of our budget. We have been to Disney many times while our children were younger. There are only 2 times over the years that we didn’t stay on property. I really wanted to… Read more »
