Top 10 Must Do's: Disney's Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened as Walt Disney World’s third park in May of 1989. The park is dedicated to movie magic. From the Golden Era of Hollywood on Sunset Blvd. to the thrilling adventures of the Star Wars universe, there is something for everyone at this Disney park. Let’s take a look at our top 10 must do’s for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

10. Beauty & The Beast Live On Stage

This Broadway-style show tells the classic “Tale As Old As Time” of Beauty & The Beast. The show features music from the 1991 Disney film. The beautiful costumes and wonderful choreography make this show one you will not want to miss! The “Be Our Guest” number is dazzling. And of course, the highlight of the show is when Belle appears in a glittering ball gown and dances with the Beast.

9. Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

Star Tours re-opened in 2011 with over 50 new adventures. Guests can hop aboard a Starspeeder 1000 and travel to many different locations from the Star Wars films. In fact, with so many different options, you’ll most likely have a different adventure each time you visit this attraction. With R2-D2 and C-3P0 as your guides, you may travel to locations such as  Tatooine, Hoth, or even the Death Star. You never know who you will see in your adventure. You might encounter Yoda, Chewbacca, or even Darth Vader. This 3D flight simulator attraction is a must-do for any Star Wars fan in your group. The attraction has even been updated to include scenes from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

8. Toy Story Mania

Located in Toy Story Land, this attraction allows guests to become honorary toys and enter the world of Andy’s toys. Even in the queue, guests are surrounded by life-sized dominoes, wooden blocks, crayons, and more. Once you step aboard your ride vehicle, the games begin! You can compete with your family and friends in various carnival games such as ring toss and balloon popping. As if that’s not enough, all of these fun carnival games are also in 3D!

Top 10 Must Do's: Disney's Hollywood Studios - Alien Swirling Saucers

7. Alien Swirling Saucers

Also in Toy Story Land is an adorable new attraction where guests join little green aliens in their rocket ships. This ride spins guests all around the attraction as the alien rocket ships swirl through the playset Andy won at Pizza Planet. Alien Swirling Saucers is so much fun. If you want to make your rocket swirl a little bit more, be sure to lean into it as you glide across the playset.

6. Fantasmic!

This show is spectacular! It has everything – fireworks, water screens, fire, boats, puppets, characters, and more! Fantasmic tells the story of how Mickey Mouse uses his imagination to defeat the forces of evil. The show has something for everyone, and chances are you’ll see your favorite Disney character at Fantasmic. Hollywood Studios’ version of the show features segments of the show dedicated to several classic Disney films such as The Lion King and Pocahontas. Be sure to have your camera ready, especially at the end of the show when you’ll see a whole boat full of Disney characters!

5. Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular

This unique nighttime spectacular combines the Star Wars saga with fireworks, lasers, projections, and so much more to create a show unlike any other. You’ll be put right in the middle of the action as visit locations from the iconic films, witness epic battles, and navigate an asteroid field. No Star Wars show would be complete without seeing many of your favorite characters. You’ll see favorites such as Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, and C-3P0, as well as villains such as Darth Vader and Kylo Ren. My favorite part of the show includes an appearance by Rey and BB-8. As with any nighttime spectacular, you’ll want to arrive early for a good spot. I recommend a spot directly in front of the Chinese Theater, as the projections make it the centerpiece of the show.

4. Slinky Dog Dash

This roller coaster through Andy’s backyard is fun for the entire family. Using his roller coaster playset and Slinky Dog Toy, Andy built a ride filled with hills and turns which delight guests of all ages. The attraction has been described as somewhere between Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Big Thunder Mountain. Though Slinky Dog Dash is not a thrill ride, it’s large hills and turns do offer a bit of a thrill while being calm enough that younger guests won’t find this attraction to be scary. Slinky Dog Dash is currently the most popular attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and will probably remain the most popular until the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019. For this reason, you’ll definitely want to try to get a FastPass for Slinky Dog Dash.

3. Rock ‘N Roller Coaster

If you love thrills, you will not want to miss Rock ‘N Roller Coaster! After entering G Force Records, you’ll head to the back alley to catch your super-stretch limo. These limos are fast! They take off from 0 to 60 mph in only 2.8 seconds. In addition to high speeds, this attraction also features loops, corkscrews, and drops. For some added fun, each limo blasts Aerosmith music for the entire ride. Be sure to experience this attraction multiple times, as each limo features a different soundtrack.

2. Tower of Terror

This may just be the best attraction in all of Walt Disney World! It has an amazing theme, a unique story, and, of course, all the thrills you could possibly want. The Hollywood Tower Hotel looms over Sunset Boulevard reminding guests of that fateful Halloween night in 1939 when five hotel guests unexpectedly disappeared from the hotel’s elevator. In this attraction, daring guests will plummet 13 stories down the elevator shaft. As if that isn’t enough, the elevator seems to have a mind of its own. You never know when or how many times you will drop, as the ride is different each time!

1. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the newest attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This attraction is unlike anything ever seen before at a Disney park. The Imagineers have figured out how to take waiting in line and turn it into an attraction itself. Rise of the Resistance is one of the longest attractions at Walt Disney World, with the entire experience taking approximately 20 minutes. Guests will join the resistance and try to escape Kylo Ren and legions of stormtroopers. With innovative ride technology and a great story Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the top must-do attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Crazy! But I have never done Light Motor Action or Fantasmic! But I guess it’s always good to have a To Do list for Disney 😉 I want to add one to the list.. Walt Disney- One Man’s Dream… I love this mini museum :))

You need to visit those shows! You will love them! I actually have never been to One Man’s Dream. I didn’t really know what it was until recently. It sounds like something I would love. It’s definitely on my to do list for my next trip.

I love having a list of must-dos when I go to a new place. Pinning this for when we head to WDW. Thank you for linking up at Travel Tip Thursday! You are being featured this week so I hope you come by and link up again!

Thank you so much!

Toy Story is definitely my favorite! I wish I had the nerve to ride Tower of Terror or Rock ‘N Roller Coaster. I think my boys would add the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure to your list. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing at this week’s Super Saturday Afternoon Tea!!!

That play set is pretty cool!

I would replace 5, 6, and 9 with Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream, the Back Lot Tour (I know, I’m weird) and the Great Movie Ride. I love must-do lists – it’s fun to see what different individual’s tastes are.

Sadly, I have never done One Man’s Dream. I didn’t realize what it was until after my last visit to HS. It sounds like something I would absolutely LOVE! I also love the Back Lot Tour! It’s such a unique experience. I do miss seeing Residential Street on it, though. I’ve heard quite a few people say they love the Great Movie Ride. Personally, it’s not one of my favorites. But it has been years since I rode it. I might have to give it another try on my next trip. 🙂

I wish that they had more family dark rides in the park. I can’t wait for the new Mickey Mouse ride.
