Walt Disney World Refurbishment Schedule Update for October 2018 - Walt Disney World Monorail

Autumn is in full swing at Walt Disney World, and the Christmas season is quickly approaching. Many families will be making a visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth over the Fall and Christmas Breaks. If you’re one of those families, you’ll want to know about any scheduled Walt Disney World refurbishments which may affect your visit ahead of time. The Refurbishment Schedule is subject to change, so be sure to  confirm any information prior to your vacation.

Magic Kingdom

  • Until further notice, the Walt Disney World monorail system is undergoing refurbishments and may be on modified service and/or routes. If you plan to use the monorail during your visit, be sure to check the best option available on your day of travel.
  • The Liberty Square Riverboat is currently undergoing refurbishment until a date yet to be determined.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

  • Rafiki’s Planet Watch and Wildlife Express will close for a lengthy refurbishment beginning October 21, 2018. During this time Disney’s world class animal care will continue behind the scenes.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park

  • Blizzard Beach will be closed for refurbishment October 28, 2018 through January 5, 2019.

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

  • Room refurbishments are currently taking place. During this time, guests may see or hear work in progress and certain pathways may be unavailable. For photos of the refurbished rooms and additional details on which buildings have already been completed, see our All-Star Movies Refurbishment post.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

  • Construction on Disney’s new transportation system, Disney Skyliner, is taking place until further notice. During this time, guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from guest rooms between dusk and 9 a.m.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge & Villas

  • Room refurbishments are currently taking place at Jambo House through Fall 2019. During this time, it is possible guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from guest rooms between dusk and 9 a.m.
  • Uzima Springs Pool and Uzima Springs Pool Bar are closed for refurbishment through early December 2018. During this time Samawati Springs Pool and Maji Pool Bar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village will be available. Brief rides via shuttle transportation will be provided to and from Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House. During this time, it is possible guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9 a.m.
  • Jambo House is now participating in a pilot where transactions will be handled with convenient, cash-free options. All purchases and services at the resort will accept MagicBands, credit cards, debit cards, Disney Gift Cards, Disney Rewards Redemption Cards and contactless payments such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay.

Disney’s Boardwalk Inn & Villas

  • Construction on Disney’s new transportation system, Disney Skyliner, is taking place until further notice. During this time, guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from guest rooms between dusk and 9 a.m.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

  • Construction on Disney’s new transportation system, Disney Skyliner, is taking place until further notice. During this time, guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from guest rooms between dusk and 9 a.m.

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

  • Pepper Market is currently undergoing minor refurbishments through summer 2019 but will remain open during this time.   If guests would like to experience one of the other dining locations, they can visit Maya Grill, Las Ventanas, Café Rix, Laguna Bar, Siestas Cantina and the newly reimagined space, Rix Sports Bar & Grill, featuring a variety of sandwiches, salads and refreshing beverages. All amenities will remain in operation, including the Dig Site pool area, La Vida Health Club, Salon & Spa and the Iguana Arcade.
  • The Dig Site, home to The Lost City of Cibola Pool, volleyball court, playground, Iguana Arcade and Siestas Cantina, is closed for refurbishment through mid-December 2018. While this work takes place, other exceptional amenities, including three leisure pools, dining and merchandise locations, La Vida Health Club, Salon & Spa and recreation activities, including Movies Under the Stars and Campfires with Marshmallows, will remain available.
  • General construction and room refurbishments are taking place until further notice. During this time, amenities including dining locations (such as the newly reimagined Rix Sports Bar and Grill) and merchandise locations, pools, La Vida Health Club with the spa and salon, and recreation activities such as beach volleyball, Iguana Arcade, Movies Under the Stars and more, will remain available. Please note that noise will be heard while the resort is undergoing refurbishments, but noise should not be heard from guest rooms prior to 9 a.m. daily.

Disney’s Pop Century Resort

  • Construction on Disney’s new transportation system, Disney Skyliner, is taking place until further notice. During this time, guests may see or hear construction, but noise should not be heard from guest rooms between dusk and 9 a.m.

ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

  • Roadwork is taking place in the area until further notice. Intermittent overnight lane closures, lane shifts, traffic congestion and noise impacts can be expected along Osceola Parkway / Victory Way.

I heard that Rafiki’s Planet Watch is closed due to budget cuts. I think it will be a seasonal attraction from now on.
