In October of 1954, Disney aired its first episode of the Disneyland television show on ABC. The series, originally hosted by Walt Disney, gave audiences a look at the Disneyland park both prior to and after its completion. The television show also featured other segments created especially for the show, as well as, previously existing segments.
The Disneyland television show was the first successful show to be produced by a movie company. It was so successful, in fact, that other production companies such as Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer also decided to create television shows to promote their studios; However, none of these shows proved to be as successful as Disney’s.
The Davy Crockett television series came about out of the success of the Davy Crockett segments from the Disneyland show. The show aired on ABC in 1954/1955 and helped sell an enormous amount of Davy Crockett themed merchandise. The show’s theme song “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” became a hit record in 1955.
