Fastpass To History: World’s Fair Attractions

World's Fair Attractions

In 1964, Disney debuted four new attractions at the New York World’s Fair. These attractions would later find their way to the Disney parks in various forms. Each World’s Fair attraction was created specifically for its sponsor.

It’s A Small World was located in the UNICEF pavilion. The attraction’s theme song, written by The Sherman Brothers, conveyed the idea of unity throughout the world. A version of It’s A Small World can now be found at five Disney parks around the world.

The Carousel of Progress is another great attraction to come from the World’s Fair. The original version was called Progressland. It was created for General Electric. The attraction originally featured the theme song we know today, There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, also written by The Sherman Brothers. After the fair, it was moved to Disneyland. At one point, GE asked Disney to change the attraction’s theme song to focus more on “now” rather than  “tomorrow.” The resulting song was Now Is  The Time. In 1975, the attraction was moved across the country to Walt Disney World.

Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln was created for the Illinois pavilion. Walt Disney was the perfect choice for someone to create this attraction. Walt was born in Illinois and  often expressed his admiration for Abraham Lincoln. This attraction now resides on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland.

Ford’s Magic Skyway took guests back to the time of the dinosaurs and then into a futuristic space city. While this attraction in its entirety is not found at a Disney park, the technology used in the Magic Skyway was the inspiration for Disneyland’s PeopleMover.
