After last year’s success with Disney Infinity 2.0, I couldn’t wait to see how Disney Interactive would top the Marvel edition of the game. Secretly, I was hoping for a Star Wars edition. I was so excited when the announcement was finally made that Disney Infinity 3.0 would, in fact, feature the characters of Star Wars! Lightsaber fights, flying TIE fighters, and of course seeing all of my favorite Star Wars characters – what more could you ask for?!

The wait is finally over and thanks to my friends at Disney Interactive, I have been given the opportunity to review the Xbox One version of Disney Infinity 3.0 {affiliate link}. I am happy to report Disney Infinity 3.0 does not disappoint! It is the best Disney Infinity released to date and I highly recommend it! Let’s take a look at what makes the Xbox One version of Disney Infinity 3.0 so much fun.

Twilight of The Republic Playset

Join Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and his trusty Padawan Ahsoka Tano on an intergalactic adventure to uncover secret plots, defeat villains and to bring peace back to the galaxy. Featuring an original story set in the Episodes I-III timeline, players will travel through four iconic locations, use the Force™ and Lightsabers™ in epic battles, and master their combat skills.

With previous versions of Disney Infinity, I enjoyed the playsets; however, they weren’t my favorite part of the game. In fact, I usually preferred to play in the Toy Box rather than the playsets. This is not the case with Disney Infinity 3.0. Disney Interactive teamed up with Ninja Theory to create the Twilight of The Republic Playset. It is definitely the best feature of Disney Infinity 3.0 so far! Unlike past playsets, this one really feels like a full video game in and of itself. The playset features a well thought out storyline. Rather than having numerous small tasks which seem to be a bit unrelated, as in previous playsets, The Twilight of The Republic playset features missions which are more involved and continuous, making gameplay a lot more fun!

In addition to great missions, the characters are an essential component to making the Twilight of The Republic playset so fun. For the first time ever, you can play as your favorite Star Wars characters in Disney Infinity! Not only do you have a great selection of characters, such as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, but your character also has a lightsaber as a weapon. This playset was created so that each different character has their own style of fighting with lightsabers. My personal favorite is Ahsoka Tano. She fights with two green lightsabers and definitely knows how to use them! The Force is also powerful in the Twilight of The Republic Playset. Yoda, one of my favorite characters to use in the playset, might be small, but The Force is definitely strong with this one.

With the Twilight of The Republic playset, you can actually travel to different worlds throughout the Star Wars universe. This was another of of my favorite parts of the playset. To travel to a different world, you get to pilot your own spacecraft and fly through space to arrive at your destination. And of course, you’re not just flying through space. There are asteroids to avoid, enemies to shoot, and so much more!

Toy Box Takeover

Enlist the help of friends, family and Disney, Disney•Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters and Power Discs to help save the Toy Box from the bad guys. Outsmart, outmaneuver and defeat enemies in six action-packed levels across five themed worlds.

The Toy Box Takeover is a great addition to Disney Infinity! In this expansion pack, you will battle villains while playing as any of your favorite Disney Infinity characters. Even the characters from older versions of Disney Infinity are compatible with this expansion pack since it takes place in the Toy Box.

With the Toy Box Takeover, you can set the difficulty level. Since my husband is an experienced gamer and well, let’s just say I could probably use a bit more practice with video games, we set the difficulty on medium. It seemed to be just the right level of difficulty for us. It was difficult enough that my husband enjoyed the gameplay, but not so difficult that I couldn’t enjoy it as well.

One thing I loved about the Toy Box Takeover is the fact that once your character is defeated you need to replace it with another Disney Infinity character. I ended up playing with quite the variety of characters! I used Merida, Anger, Stitch, Yoda, and more to battle pirates, omnidroids, and various other villains. It was so much fun to see all of the Disney worlds come together in one epic game!

Each level of the Toy Box Takeover is based on a certain Disney films. The various levels include Pirates of The Caribbean, The Incredibles, Marvel, Star Wars, and more. Once you successfully defeat the level’s boss, you will unlock one of the other levels, a couple sidekicks, and a bonus toy.

Toy Box

The Disney Infinity 3.0 Toy Box features some exciting additions! There are so many more toys and templates, plus the pre-built Toy Boxes seem to load much faster than in previous version of the game. The Toy Box Hub is a great place to easily explore all the 3.0 Toy Box has to offer. I love having the new Radio Disney Player which allows Radio Disney to be the soundtrack while you create in the Toy Box! Other fantastic new toys include the Toy Dispenser, Music Note Creator, Main Street, U.S.A. storefronts, and even a ride vehicle from one of my favorite attractions, Splash Mountain. The power discs for Disney Infinity 3.0 are another great feature; They are sold in sets, so you can see which ones you’re getting and you get all of the power discs for that particular set.

The addition I’m most impressed with is the Path Creator found in the Creativi-Toys. You’ll actually have to go into the Toy Store to purchase this toy, but it’s definitely worth the sparks you’ll spend on it. With this Creativi-Toy, you can set a designated path for objects or characters to follow. Once you set the path, you’ll use the magic wand to link objects to the path. There are so many uses for the Path Creator. You can use it to give enemies a designated path. You can also use the Path Creator to build rides for your characters. By linking a vehicle to the path, your character can ride around the toy box on a set path. I’ve even seen videos where someone created Disney park attractions, such as Splash Mountain, using the Path Creator!

Sidekicks are another great addition to the Disney Infinity 3.0 Toy Box. As you play the game, you’ll unlock additional sidekicks. These sidekicks are there to help you as you play. Once you have armed your sidekick with a weapon, they will assist you in defeating villains. The sidekicks can even come with you in the Toy Box Takeover. I found this to be very useful. In fact, there are some cases where you’ll need your sidekick to continue in the game. In the Pirates level of the Toy Box Takeover, I had to throw my sidekick through a special door found on a cannon. This allowed my sidekick to be transported to the pirate ship, which he then sailed back to the fort.

In order to increase their skills and energy, sidekicks need to be well fed. You can accomplish this through the farming section of the Toy Box Hub. Once you equip your sidekick with the farming tool, they are ready to begin planting your crops. While the sidekick is busy planting, your character will be in charge of harvesting and getting rid of a few weeds. Crops grown include many of your typical farm crops such as corn, tomatoes, and carrots. There are also a few crops unique to Disney such as the Disney Parks churro and Pumbaa’s giant grubs.

Overall Rating: A+

I have been quite impressed with Disney Infinity 3.0. The Twilight of The Republic playset is such a well though out game and provides countless hours of Star Wars fun. The Toy Box Takeover is a fantastic addition, allowing epic battles with a variety of Disney villains. I can’t wait to experience the fun in Disney Infinity 3.0’s second expansion pack, the Toy Box Speedway, releasing later this year! With all of the new additions and improvements in the Disney Infinity 3.0 Toy Box, it will be easy to spend hours upon hours building and creating. The possibilities for your creations really are endless! Disney Infinity 3.0 is a great purchase for any Star Wars fan, as well as, any Disney fan. I highly recommend Disney Infinity 3.0. Overall, I give Disney Infinity 3.0 an A+ rating.
