Disney Infinity 2.0: First Impressions

This past weekend, I received a big box from my friends at Disney Interactive. Upon opening the box, it was like Christmas morning! In addition to the Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes XBOX 360 starter pack {affiliate link}, they had also sent the Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy play sets, as well as all of the different characters featured in the photo above and a few packs of power discs! I loved the original Disney Infinity, so naturally I couldn’t wait to try out the new edition of the video game.

Since the announcement of Disney Infinity 2.0, my biggest question had been compatibility. Would the Disney Infinity 1.0 characters work with the new version? Can you still play the 1.0 play sets on the 2.0 base? I’m happy to report I have the answers to these questions and more! The Disney Infinity 1.0 characters will work in the Disney Infinity 2.0 Toy Box. In fact, when you put these figures on the base, you will unlock all of the fun toys associated with that character from the original version of the game! While the Disney Infinity 1.0 play sets are not compatible with the 2.0 disc, you can still play them with the Disney Infinity 2.0 base. You’ll just need to insert the Disney Infinity 1.0 game disc in order to play. Now, on to the power discs. Do the original power discs work with the new version of the game? They certainly do! I’m pleased to say I couldn’t be happier with the compatibility between the new and original versions of Disney Infinity.

The new and improved Toy Box in Disney Infinity 2.0 has some great features. Being just a casual gamer, building racetracks, towns, and more in the original Toy Box didn’t come easily for me. Thanks to the builders and creator tools, these tasks are much more user friendly. I can’t wait to see what fun I can construct as I continue to play in the new Toy Box!

While I haven’t had a chance to try out all three of the Marvel play sets just yet, I am thoroughly impressed with the ones I have played. There seems to be a lot more to do in these new play sets than in the original Disney Infinity. It also seems to be easier to unlock items in the Disney Infinity 2.0 play sets.

Disney Infinity 2.0 - Thor and Iron Man

So far, I have spent the most time playing the Avengers play set. This play set is four times the size of the Incredibles play set, which just happens to be my favorite of the 1.0 play sets. In this play set, the Avengers must stop Loki from freezing New York City. The Avengers characters are able to utilize their super powers in the play set; Flying around the city as characters such as Thor or Iron Man is such a fantastic addition to the game!

Disney Infinity 2.0 adds several new features to the game. Unlike the original version, the 2.0 characters can actually be defeated in the play sets {affiliate link}. While this might not sound like a ton of fun, it’s actually one of my favorite features. When your character is defeated you have the option of waiting to be revived or simply placing a new character on the base. Since whichever character I’m playing has been known to get defeated fairly often, I’ve enjoyed playing as all of the various characters. It’s interesting to see their different skills and abilities as you play the game.

Another great feature new to the 2.0 version of the game is the ability of multiple characters to play in multiple play sets. In order to gain this ability, you must collect a certain number of special coins throughout the play set. I haven’t collected enough coins for any characters to cross over yet, but I am certainly looking forward to doing so as I continue to play Disney Infinity 2.0!

These are just my first impressions of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes. I will be able to share more on this new Disney video game as I continue to play the game, so be sure to check back later for a more detailed review.

Have you played Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes? We would love to hear your thoughts on the game in the comments below!
