Can You Remove The Sword In The Stone?

Located next to Prince Charming’s Regal Carrousel at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, you will find the Sword in the Stone. Here guests have the opportunity to try their luck at removing the sword from the stone. I’ve tried on several occasions with no luck. My husband has made some unsuccessful attempts to pull the sword out.

After years of never seeing the sword come out of the stone, I was convinced that it was not possible. I was wrong. The sword does in fact come up from the stone. It seems in order to remove the sword, you must have extraordinary strength – which Flynn Rider apparently does not have (check out the video below). Ok, so maybe the sword is remotely operated like the spitting camels in Adventureland, but let’s not ruin the magic.

Have you ever pulled the sword out of the stone?

Pretty cool, isn’t it! I may have to hang around there a while on my next trip to maybe see it be pulled up.

We have never tried, but we’re headed to Magic Kingdom today, so we’ll give it a tug! I’ll let you know how it turns out 🙂

Our son was the Prince of the Day when he was 3 and when the sword started to come up he got scared and started to run away. Luckily a cast member who controlled it was nearby and came over to congratulate him. Everyone was cheering while he tried to hide behind me. It was a great experience and we loved the Disney Magic for sure!

I knew years ago it could be removed, but I thought that they had changed that. I’ve actually never stopped and tried it – but we SO need to. Especially now that my younger 2 kids have developed and interest for Merlin and the backstory that goes with the sword.
