The Walt Disney World resorts are decorated exquisitely for the Christmas season. Many of them are home to uniquely decorated Christmas trees, stunning wreaths, and beautiful garlands; however, a few of these resorts are also home to some of the most amazing gingerbread creations! If you visit Walt Disney World around the holidays, you will definitely want to make time to see these spectacular (and edible) works of art! For the 2014 Christmas season, gingerbread displays can be found at five Walt Disney World resorts.
Located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is my favorite gingerbread creation. The resort’s lobby is home to a 16 foot-tall gingerbread house featuring over 10,000 individual pieces of gingerbread. If you look closely, you will be able to spot numerous golden hidden Mickeys on the gingerbread house. If the wonderful smell of the house gets you in the mood for some gingerbread, just head to the back of the house. There you will find a cast member selling actual gingerbread shingles!
This year’s gingerbread display at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is all about Frozen. The display is designed in the style of Disney animator and imaginer Mary Blair. If you look to the top right of the giant ice castle, you may notice a familiar face from the It’s A Small World attraction. The display features Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven. The display includes 311 pounds of honey and 423 pounds of chocolate. I think the film’s chocolate-loving sisters would approve! While you’re admiring the beautiful gingerbread creation, be on the lookout for several hidden Olafs found on the display.
A life-size replica of a Jersey Shore concession stand can be found at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. And of course, you can purchase some tasty treats from the concession stand. The display features 674 gingerbread shingles and a giant ice cream cone on top.
Disney’s Beach Club Resort is home to a stunning gingerbread carousel. This life-size carousel does actually spin and features gorgeous ponies created from chocolate and fondant. The display also includes edible poinsettias, gingerbread snowflakes, and a miniature gingerbread Cinderella Castle. This year marks the 14th year a gingerbread carousel has been created for the resort.
A beautiful gingerbread train display can be found at Disney’s Yacth Club. The display features a train which travels past an edible Christmas village and through a mountain made of sugar.
