Each year on the 4th of July, thousands of fireworks displays fill the skies over the United States. One of the most spectacular fireworks displays is found at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. This year, Disney is celebrating our country’s independence all week long. Each night “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” will dazzle guests with sparkling comets and bursts of colors all set to a new music score in a concert band style. While these fireworks displays are sure to be amazing, they’re even better if you have a great location from which to view the show.
This year, 2013, marks the first year guests will be able to view Disney’s 4th of July fireworks over three different castles in the Magic Kingdom. With the opening of New Fantasyland, fireworks can now be seen exploding over Beast’s castle, as well as, over Prince Eric’s castle. If you’ve seen the fireworks over Cinderella Castle many times before, head over to New Fantasyland to get a new perspective on Disney fireworks.
If you prefer a view of the fireworks over Cinderella Castle, there are plenty of great viewing locations. My personal favorite spot for viewing the fireworks is the Tomorrowland Terrace. Most nights Disney hosts a Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party for viewing of the fireworks. The terrace is located just underneath Tinkerbell’s flight path. Watching her fly from the castle and straight toward you is a truly magical experience. The Tomorrowland Terrace also provides a great view of the fireworks over Cinderella Castle. As if this spectacular view of the show wasn’t enough, this experience also includes a variety of delicious treats, as well as, hot and cold beverages. A separate ticket to the Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party is required.
The best fireworks viewing location which does not require a separate ticket is on the second floor of the Main Street Train Station. This gives you the perfect view down Main Street with the castle directly across from you. If you arrive early enough, you might be able to get a spot right on the railing of the train station. This will provide you with a completely unobstructed view for the show.
Almost anywhere on Main Street, U.S.A. will also provide a great view of the fireworks show. The corner next to Casey’s provides a nice view of the show. Anywhere in the middle of Main Street also provides a great view of the fireworks over Cinderella Castle. Be sure to pick a spot that is a little ways back from the castle. A viewing location right in front of the castle will actually have an obstructed view of the show, as the castle blocks the view of some of the fireworks.
If you don’t plan on being in the Magic Kingdom on the 4th of July, you can still get a fabulous view of the fireworks celebration. Just head over to the beach at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Disney actually pipes in the music for the fireworks show. You will also be able to see Cinderella Castle across Seven Seas Lagoon, all while relaxing on the beach!
No matter where you decide to view the 4th of July fireworks celebration from, you will want to arrive at least one hour prior to the start of the show in order to secure your viewing location. The Celebrate America! fireworks spectacular will take place at 9 p.m. on July 3rd and July 4th and at 10 p.m. on July 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, and 7th in 2013.
